I have a question... @ 09:01 pm

[info]igtow:

...and would appreciate some opinions, please

After much thought, I've decided to switch my permanent journal over here (although I still intend to maintain my LJ if only to eat up their server space) and as such am planning to post *all* my stories here (including the entire Hiding Under the Ninth Earth Series), hopefully starting this weekend. The question I have is this:

Poll #325 How Should I Post My Stories...
Open to: All, results viewable to: All

I'd prefer you to:

View Answers

Post every story as a journal entry because I like everything in one place and don't care how many chapters you post to the f-list.
16 (50.0%)

Post multiple links to the open/closed archives where the story is posted.
10 (31.2%)

Post a link back to the story from A Turn of the Page only as it has the freshest copies, and I already have the password (or am willing to apply for it).
6 (18.8%)

If I go the multiple link route, I would probably link to my site (and you do have a password, right? *wink*), as well as Walking the Plank, E.T.C. (if I can ever get it to take my revisions, which it has *not* been doing *pout*), Skyehawke, Cipher, FanFiction.net (yeah, I know most people hate it, but I *still* get the most reviews there), and maybe HPFandom.

Here's my thoughts (yeah, I'm this anal in real-life, too):

Benefits:Drawbacks:
Posting the entire story to the Journal...
  • Everything is in one place
  • Easy access for phones, pda's, and RSS feeds
  • Comments are easy to add.
  • Tags would keep the stories all in one place.
  • Most stories would require multiple posts and tags because of the length restrictions.
  • Any story over 13+ rating would have to be friends-locked.
  • Possibility of hostile host at a later date.
Posting multiple links...
  • One story, one post makes it easier to find them, especially with the long multi-chapter stories.
  • Easier for me to post as I have all my stories book-marked.
  • Readers can generally find a site with a format they prefer.
  • Would require an extra step to get to the story.
  • Because some of the archives are not locked, any story over 13+ rating would have to be friends-locked.
  • Possibility of 'broken links' if one or more sites goes away.
Posting to A Turn of the Page Only...
  • One story, one post makes it easier to find them, especially with the long multi-chapter stories
  • If there are changes/corrections to be made, I only make them at this site, so it has the 'freshest' copy.
  • Site is locked with password access requiring an age statement so all journal posts could be public.
  • Legally, gives me the strongest protection against all the 'righteous' people out there.
  • As I control the site, I know the archive will be there and there is less chance of 'broken links' if a site goes away.
  • The site *is* password-protected and requires a strict age statement. There are no exceptions to this. Some people find this offensive.
  • Possible leaks in site security (which I really don't want) if people break the rules and share the password.
  • If I leave the journal open to the public, I run the risk of drawing outside attention to it, so I may f-lock the link posts in any event.

Thoughts? Just post a comment below, I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you ever so much!
