For me personally as a reader, anything you choose is fine, but as a reccer, I don't bother reccing anything that isn't on a publicly accessible, non-passworded site, no matter how much I like it, since I know from long experience that most people won't take the extra steps to apply for a password from a recs page.

And from the perspective of someone interested in ensuring fannish history, I believe in building in redundancy when archiving (especially for long important works like yours). If you go the personal-archive-only approach, all it takes is one disaster with your host's server at a hypothetical point in the future when you're already losing interest in fandom (i.e., when you'd have no interest in re-building a website) and your work will be gone forever.

An interesting perspective, never much thought about rec's. And it's true, many folk won't bother with obtaining a password.

I'm thinking that if I linked here only to my site, I would continue posting in other places as well as there are too many people out there who really don't like LJ/IJ at all, which is really ironic as I used to be one of them. Which is why I'm thinking the multiple links to several archives might be the best, not only from a 'hedging my bets' kind of way, but also because many people have many ways of wanting to read things and some sites serve better than others. *G*

I hear you about the server failure though, and have always been a bit paranoid in that regard, which is why I've been religious with my site's back-up, and why I also maintain a hidden mirror site as well.

Thanks for the feedback; it was most helpful.
