Short one today. First of all, marmots! How can you not like marmots? Everyone likes marmots. We like deer and we like marmots and we like all the fluffy animals and we really like the moon. ;) There is now a mouse designed specifically for use with OpenOffice. I am intrigued but feel I wouldn't use half the functionality. Many of you may be familiar with Failblog. Well, now there's a blog detailing the opposite - Succeedblog! There are some truly impressive feats in there, although in some cases, I do have to ask why? ION, someone's found a mandrake! This is really clever and yet disturbing - Face Paint artist from Michigan paints his face to look like the members of Kiss, octopi and a dog's arse. Um. Yes. It's good, but it's not right! Not for the face paint phobic, that. Everyone's got a Twitter now, and now even Big Ben's got one. Nifty but a tad repetitive, I feel. Daily Fail's current poll is more leading than even I'd expect. Should female MPs be allowed to employ cleaners on expenses? Well, yes obviously. Get in there and skew it, my friends. :) And finally! Got kids? Worship the Elder Gods? Want to make sure the kids grow up in your footsteps (or flipper tracks or tentacle trails, depending on just how far you've gone with it)? Look no further. Let this educational video assist you. The Adventures of Lil' Cthulhu. I feel it lays the finer points of the mythos out quite adequately. :) Snarry art? @ 05:13 amThis feels like a stupid question to ask, but I know many here on IJ loves Snarry stuff. Anyway, my stupid question is: Where is the best place to post Snarry artwork? I know LJ has many comm for Drarry art, but if I'm not mistaken, most Snarry lovers are here on IJ, right? The reason I'm asking is because there is a fantastic artist I know on LJ and I'd like her to post her work where it can get the most recognition. Thanks! Found cute Dog!Harry @ 08:08 pmSpotted this Harry Cocker by Profound_Yaoi, still WIP and the author said "That's it" for now... and left it hanging for another fic, sigh~ Dog!Harry ( Summary of the said fic and it's kinda cute... is now reading it ) So bad it's hysterical @ 05:40 amCurrent Mood:

But first, a Word Count update! \o/ And now, because you've all been indulging me lately, a tasty snippet. "Malfoy…Draco? Your cock it's…" Harry smirked, swiping his thumb over the wet head. Malfoy's hips jerked beneath him. "It's crying. It's crying tears of sperm." A pillow smacked him in the face, and Harry fell over laughing. "I abhor you, Potter," Malfoy grunted into the mattress. Harry only laughed harder. Now, to cut this or not to cut this. That is the question. November 6th, 2009BloMo6: Friday night is Wonky TV night!.... @ 11:56 pmCurrent Mood:
Current Music: White Collar
It's like...if you stay home on a Friday night, you must have eclectic tastes. Right? It's certainly not Loser TV for Losers, nooooo. ~_^ (I am kidding, really!) Ghost Whisperer I didn't watch the early seasons of this show, trying to tell myself I wasn't interested, but I have a hard time resisting supernatural anything. I mean, I watched Charmed for a few seasons, for gawd's sake! Plus, I have to admit, Jennifer Love-Hewitt is awfully...Lush. It's actually not a bad little show. Usually, the ghost is put to rest at the end of the episode, and any mytharc the series flirts with fits into the regular episode. Ok, the husband's not bad either. Ugly Betty Bright, colourful, wacky, fun! I'm a little sad that more people don't watch Ugly Betty. I love the entire cast; I can't think of one character I don't adore. *clings to it* Medium This show is smart, the family and characters are real, and NBC is staffed by fools. The End. Monk The first half of this last season, the show was cruising hard. The cases were almost nonexistent, and the "bits" were tired. But now that we're into the second half, it's like a light went on and the people involved realised that they only have a few episodes left to say goodbye to one of TV's most original characters. If you watch The Mentalist or Numbers, you have Mr. Monk to thank. Psych Oh. How. I. Love. This. Show. Shawn and Gus are a great team, and I love the premise, of a man so observant that people wouldn't listen to him until he began doing his psychic schtick. It's funny, it's fun, it's smart. I actually like Corbin Bersen for once. If you have no idea what Psych is about, then ask me more, because this is a show you should be watching. White Collar Jury's still out on this one. The SO likes it, but I have a hard time cheering for criminals. Sanctuary & Stargate Um, we have bazillion episodes sitting on the TiVO. Does not bode well. The first episode of Stargate Universe was a huge downer, and people keep telling us it finds sub-levels from there. So, who's home with me? ^_^ love, lore Full Moon @ 09:54 pmCurrent Mood:

( Full Moon ) First daily_deviant fic! @ 10:16 pmSo, I put up my first post to Title: Lost and Held Characters: Sirius, Peter Rating: NC-17 Warnings: Castration, sex, cross-dressing, manipulation Themes/kinks chosen: Eunuchs/Castrati, Costumes Word Count: ~5,300 Summary: An accident gives Sirius and Peter a shared secret Author's notes: November prompts included the theme "eunuchs/castrati". It's listed in the tags as "castration", which would have been a rather different story. I have been as accurate as possible with the theme, but do not guarantee all details are correct. ;-) Thanks to Clauclauclaudia for very short-notice beta work. Link to post This one was odd to work on. The themes for November were clamps, costumes, eunuchs/castrati, and symphorophilia (arousal by watching or causing destruction and/or death). "Costumes" didn't really seem like enough to me, and I hate clamps so much that it's hard for me to write about them. Symphorophilia would be easy ... but I wasn't in the mood for something that dark. So I wrote castration because I didn't want to write darkfic. Um.... Researching physiological details was truly weird. I found support services for castrated men, historical notes on castrati, and quite a lot about self-castration, either for practical reasons or as a one-use-only fetish. o_0 Writing Sirius/Peter was also weird. I'm generally a Sirius/Remus person. This is going to be another one of those fics no one reads, isn't it? It's time to nut up, or shut up... @ 10:05 pmOkay, so yeah. We went to see Zombieland tonight. I was 500 words shy of daily quota (but am still ahead by nearly half of tomorrow's, thanks to yesterday's push,) and I decided that I wanted a real, grown-up date, with dinner out, and nice drinks, and, apparently, zombies. It was laugh out loud, ridiculously funny, that movie. Predictable leik whoa, and probably the closest America will ever get to a zombie movie in league with Sean of the Dead. Zombies come from eating mad cows, apparently. Who knew? Look, this movie isn't gonna change anybody's life, but it will make you guffaw at Woody Harrelson fan-humping *Secret Stealth Celebrity Cameo who's name I am withholding*'s leg in an epic geek-out moment. Or the four-gun funeral salute, with pause in the middle to reload the double-barrel. Or the Purel scene. Or the squeaky nose. I'm just sayin. And I'm also sayin, for a movie in which The Rules Of Survival play such a prominent role, how the HELL is it that when the Hummer rolls up on the gates of Pacific Playland, and pushes gently through as twilight gives way to dusk, Dominus and I were the ones who leaned over to each other and murmured "Rule one: Don't go at night. Rule two: Don't go alone. Rule three: Save the last bullet for yourself." Sadly, none of those rules made an appearance in this film. Though they should have done, as they were all broken at one point or another. Still, I believe I will officially add Zombieland's rule two to the list from now on, as it bears keeping in mind. Double tap. Always double tap. Brain dead, and CSA @ 08:51 pmCurrent Mood:
Okay, I'm in not too bad of shape with this assignment, I guess, unless I've woefully misinterpreted what it's supposed to do. The instructions were... terse. But my brain is seriously shutting down, so I'm going to quit working on it for tonight and come back in the morning. CSA this week included: daikon, red radishes, turnips, a few little carrots, garlic, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, arugula, turnip greens (in addition to those on the turnips), dandelion greens, and purple beans. [Still around from previous weeks: cherry tomatoes, radishes, daikon, turnips, acorn squash, butternut squash, beets.] Turnip puree again, probably; cook some of the red radishes for SO; plain steamed beans; lettuce salad. I might turn the other greens into a tart (don't have that recipe online yet). I also have a recipe for shrimp with cherry tomatoes and feta (also not online) and have a pound of frozen shrimp, so maybe that (using last week's tomatoes, which are now about ripe). Other than that... Taught classes. Got prep done for Monday for both classes. Had a meeting. Dealt with work email. Dictated about 800 words each on two different fics; one for a fest, the other DD. Played some with Juno. Now waiting for SO to get home. He'd indicated he was going to try to get home early tonight, but that didn't happen; he decided he really needed to work out since he hadn't all week. Okay, fair enough, and I worked on the assignment meantime. But if he doesn't get back soon, we probably can't have our Friday night date since restaurants around here close pretty dang early even on weekends. So we'll see. There are some leftovers if we end up not doing anything tonight. After a week and a half of pulling our hair out and shaking angry fists towards Luxembourg, we finally got back to what we should've been doing all along -- promoting this bloody Show! Yes, free publicity, RTL, why do you make this so hard? The situation's not ideal by any means. Instead of capturing clips directly from the video stream like we used to, now we're stuck spending literally hours on screencaptures. It's totally draining -- the RTL player is, quite frankly, crap. Everytime it stalls, I have to rebuffer and restart the recording. On about a third of the files the soundtrack comes out wonky. And even at its best, the quality is jerky because it is, after all, a string of screencaps. THANK GOD THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN BEFORE REUNION! Still! We posted episode* and we're getting comments again (they are like a drug, I tell you!) and I'm going to sit here and drink wine and spam like whoa. And if I have enough wine, I just might make a defiant "you can't take the Hope you're all ready for an awesome weekend! * This episode was nabbed before we left for Germany; it's not representative of the new stuff we're getting. You'll know what I mean when you see those in a few days. Boy, will you know what I mean. Happy, Smiley Poems @ 08:46 pmMy toes are partially numb but I am in a ridiculously happy mood. Why? I went to see Poe Evermore at the PA Ren. Faire tonight. I spent a half an hour silently shipping Irving/Longfellow. Longfellow blew a cork into Irving's ear. Mary Shelly had a mental fit. And Poe cracked jokes about his own stories, and gave us the run down of Pit and the Pendulum and The Fall of the House of Usher in under a minute. He also insisted The Stylus would only involve happy, smiley poems. Yeah. Yeah, it just was that kind of show. Such is triceybabe's life! @ 07:07 pmOh hell. I never should have tried it. And now I want what I can't have at the moment. I joined chemistry.com. I feel that I'm ready to meet someone now. Before I got sick, I was still runnin from from relationships. But while I was sick, I was scared. Very, very scared. I was continuously sick and I had no idea why. And with the swine flu running rampant, I had a reason to be. At least ten peple have died in a hundred mile radious of me of the swine flu. When I fnally went to the ER, that was the first thing they checked for. And I was grateful for that. It put me at ease. Though finding out that I got pneumonia from a 2yo wasn't the best news either. lol. So back to the subject at hand... I joined and got a few matches. No, no, hell no, and no, is what I kept saying. Some were possibilities. And then there was one that stood out. Whom I really want to meet. I move to click the "definately" button and suddenly remembered that this was a pay site. And at the moment, I just can't afford to suscribe to it. At least not till after Christmas. Crap. Such is my life... Feeling Strangely Fine @ 08:22 pmCurrent Mood:

I've been bored, so I bought some hair dye today. *G* Nothing drastic, but I did that tonight and have been messing around making icons for ( Clicky for pics of my new hair color ) Another truth about marriage @ 04:53 pmI was looking for statistics* about same-sex marriage opposition when I ran across this precious article posted back in June. (Warning for extreme sexism and various other acts of privilege.) The author--Sam Schulman--goes on at length about what he objects to about same sex marriage, and what he thinks marriage really is. Bolded sections are emphasis added. The relationship between a same-sex couple, though it involves the enviable joy of living forever with one's soulmate, loyalty, fidelity, warmth, a happy home, shopping, and parenting, is not the same as marriage between a man and a woman, though they enjoy exactly the same cozy virtues. These qualities are awfully nice, but they are emphatically not what marriage fosters, and, even when they do exist, are only a small part of why marriage evolved and what it does.Got that? It's important. He's tackling the key issue of what is marriage, which is absolutely crucial to any non-religious discussion of and why same-sex couples can't have it. Brace yourself... 'cos he hits the same conclusion about "traditional marriage" that I got, only he thinks it's a good thing. Marriage, whatever its particular manifestation in a particular culture or epoch, is essentially about who may and who may not have sexual access to a woman when she becomes an adult, and is also about how her adulthood--and sexual accessibility--is defined.Marriage is not about raising children, or living together and sharing resources, or being a unit in the community. Marriage is about female sexuality--and the control thereof. In case that wasn't obvious from his earlier quotes, he makes sure you understand: This most profound aspect of marriage--protecting and controlling the sexuality of the child-bearing sex--is its only true reason for being, and it has no equivalent in same-sex marriage. He also points out that "A same-sex marriage fails utterly to create forbidden relationships." He seems to think they are important--nay, mandatory, because, "without social disapproval of unmarried sex--what kind of madman would seek marriage?" He then goes on to talk about the "kinship" that marriage creates: Even in modern romantic marriages, a groom becomes the hunting or business partner of his father-in-law and a member of his clubs; a bride becomes an ally of her mother-in-law in controlling her husband. There can, of course, be warm relations between families and their children's same-sex partners, but these come about because of liking, sympathy, and the inherent kindness of many people. A wedding between same-sex lovers does not create the fact (or even the feeling) of kinship between a man and his husband's family; a woman and her wife's kin. This kinship is important to him--he says In a world without kinship, women will lose their hard-earned status as sexual beings with personal autonomy and physical security. Children will lose their status as nonsexual beings. That latter seems like a bit of a red herring, and he doesn't explain it well. But it does tie into some of his other points, about marriage and illicit sexuality and the importance of at least giving lip service to the idea of virginity. Marriage, to him, is all about men getting access to women's sexuality, and since same-sex marriage turns that concept on its head, it is wrong. And he doesn't even spend much time grumbling about the "wrongness"--he's bitching about how the inevitible failure of same-sex marriage (because marriage can't survive without illicit sexuality and forced kinship) will destroy the last vestiges of men-owning-women marriage. Umm. Yay? * Stats: Specifically, I was trying to find out if the opposition splits equally along gender lines, or if more men oppose same-sex marriage than women. Any relevant research info would be welcome. This entry is crossposted at http://elf.dreamwidth.org/280002.html.
